Short bio
I’m fascinated by porous media because we see them everywhere and in all shapes: in the environment in soil, rocks, trees and in our own body in organs, tissue, cells on all time and spatial scales. Using computational methods allows me to investigate porous media across scales.
Currently, I am a Scientia II MSC PostDoc fellow at the University of Oslo, where I primarily work on models for water and solute transport in the brain, together with Kent-Andre Mardal. Moreover, I contribute new algorithms and tools to facilitate porous media research and dedicate lots of time to open-source research software development, mainly to the simulation framework DuMux. Prior to Norway, I have had a brief PostDoc position at the University of Stuttgart with Rainer Helmig at the Department of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems where I also earned my PhD with Bernd Flemisch as main supervisor. In my PhD project within the Graduate School Simulation Technology, I developed numerical methods to simulate flow in porous media with embedded transport networks efficiently and accurately. I successfully applied this technique to model solute transport in tissue, root water uptake from soil, and in reservoir well modelling.
